HIN (Http INterceptor)
A versatile tool for privacy enhancement, Web development and testing
This is the home page for the HIN (Http INterceptor) browser extension for Chromium
compatible browsers. This site is the official distribution point
and is operated by the author.
HIN (Http INterceptor) is a browser extension for
Chromium-compatible browers. It is a highly versatile tool,
useful for privacy enhancement, Web development and testing. HIN
uses the chrome.webRequest API to intercept the browser's
traffic and make adjustments (either of the HTTP headers, or by
cancelling or redirecting) using a rule-based matching engine.
This allows for very highly selective behavior based on the
particular sites being visited.
See the FAQ & Documentation for
information on what HIN does, how it works, why it exists, where you
can get it, when the last version was released, and who wrote it.
Downloading and Installing
There are several ways to install HIN:
- The easiest is to download the .CRX directly and install
that. The CRX link to the latest version
is here. Depending on your browser, clicking
the link will either offer to install HIN directly into the browser
(possibly requiring later
explicit enablement) or, more likely, to save it in your Downloads
folder, where you can drag it into the browser extension page
to install it.
-
Download and unpack the TAR archive and install in developer mode
using "Load unpacked extension." This will allow you to use
on some highly restricted browsers (e.g. Google's Chrome on Windows),
but you will not get automatic updates, nor be able to run HIN in
"incognito mode." The latest TAR archive is here
and the full set of release archives is here.
More information on why the installation procedure is the way it
is can be found in
the FAQ section
on installation.
